Wind in the Aspens

It doesn't look like this outside anymore honestly, the leaves have truly fallen now, but a few weeks ago when I was out wearing my plaid suit, the aspens were still golden. Aspens are such gorgeous trees, the little leaves like gold coins dancing and glittering in the wind! If only they were golden all year instead of only for a brief moment in autumn.

I haven't worn this suit together in a while, wearing the jacket and skirt apart a few times last year instead of as a set. I should have made the collarless front on this suit less deep, with another button above the two I did plan into the design as it just would have been a better fit/look on me. As it is now the deep front of this jacket always bothers me, enter a faux fur collar to the rescue! Faux fur collars can add glamour and hide collars with ease. I'd like to make some more colorful faux fur accessories this year so I'll have to go check out the faux selection at my favorite fabric shop next time I'm there. I've had a hard time jumping into sewing projects lately, so perhaps a small project like a collar would be good for me.

I hope everyone has had a good start to November, as usual I can't believe it's November already! I have so much to do before the year is out! Better get to it I guess...

  4. It looks lovely on you! I have always wanted to sew something to wear out of faux fur but I never buy any because I have this fear it will turn into the partially melted rough dull looking stuff that belongs more so on a muppet then me. Do you have any tips on picking out faux fur or the care of faux fur items like collars?

    1. Thank you! I just choose fau furs that I like the color of and have a relatively soft hand, I'm lucky the fabric shop here in town has a good selection. I don't exactly care for my faux furs, as I don't ever get them dirty so that saves me figuring out that puzzle! Faux fur is easier to sew than you'd think, I do have a couple of tutorials here on the blog using faux fur. Here is the collar one: http://theclosethistorian.blogspot.com/2016/01/diy-faux-fur-collar.html

  6. I said it on Instagram, and I'll say it again - this is just beautiful! I love the fur with the plaid. It's an unexpected combo, but a lovely and perfectly autumnal one. Gorgeous colors, too, and they suit you really well.

    1. Thank you Jessica! I really think the addition of a collar like this one has turned this suit around for me, as I found it less flattering without one and now I feel I know how to wear it!
